Full Description

The Purple Beech Hedging (Fagus Sylvatica Purpurea) is a striking choice for creating a year-round hedge that offers both beauty and practicality. In spring, its foliage emerges in vibrant shades of purple and russet red, and after a midsummer trim, it flushes with fresh colour once again. While Beech is a deciduous plant, it holds onto its copper-coloured winter leaves, providing continuous coverage until new growth in spring pushes the old leaves off—making it a fantastic alternative to evergreen hedges.

To maintain its dense leaf coverage throughout winter, it is essential to trim the Purple Beech hedge in autumn. This ensures the leaves stay intact, offering a formal, dense barrier that provides privacy and shelter in colder months. Its hardy nature makes it suitable for windy sites, and it’s particularly effective as a dense windbreak, improving your garden’s protection from the elements all year round.

We offer a variety of Beech plants, including Green Beech (Fagus Sylvatica), Weeping Green Beech (Fagus Sylvatica Pendula), and Weeping Purple Beech (Fagus Sylvatica Purpurea Pendula), giving you options to suit your landscaping needs. Whether you’re looking for a robust hedge or a unique tree, Beech is a versatile and visually stunning addition to any garden.
