Full Description
The Wellingtonia (Sequoiadendron Giganteum), also known as the Giant Redwood, is a truly magnificent tree that can become the centrepiece of any landscape. Its towering, dark green spire of foliage rises high above surrounding trees, creating a dramatic focal point. The lower branches gracefully sweep down, often rooting at the ground and shooting upwards once again, adding to its striking appearance. Mature trees develop thick, fibrous, rust-red bark that can reach over 20cm in thickness.
Native to the United States, the Wellingtonia is an incredibly robust tree that can grow larger than veteran oaks and chestnuts, making it a true giant of the plant world. Perfect for large gardens, parks, or woodland areas, it thrives best in northern and western climates where it can continue its impressive vertical growth.
Whether planted as a solitary specimen or in a grove, the Giant Redwood will stand out as a breathtaking landmark in your landscape for generations to come. A stunning choice for those seeking a tree that combines natural grandeur with historical charm.
Aftercare
Once planted, it is important to keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons. Newly planted Wellingtonia should be well watered during its first growing season and essentially in hot summers would require extra watering. Giant Sequoia trees do not require a lot of pruning. Simply remove any dead, diseased or awkwardly placed branches.
