Black Walnut trees (Juglans Nigra)

Bare root stock available Oct-April or PRE ORDER NOW and reserve Black Walnut trees-(Juglans Nigra) is a tough tree-In autumn it turns brilliant gold colour. The black walnut is a large, fast growing deciduous tree with distinctive ridged bark and butter yellow autumn leaves. An abundance of edible nuts are produced in autumn,  you probably know when they are ready when you see lots of squirrels in your tree. Nuts are considered to be even better than the Common Walnut (Juglans Regia).Walnuts are rounded, single-seeded stone fruits of the walnut tree. The walnut fruit is enclosed in a green, leathery, fleshy husk. The husk is inedible but the walnut seeds which are edible are a high density source of nutrients, particularly proteins and essential fatty acids. This species can usefully be planted in mixture with cherry or larch. In the arboretum it makes a fine free standing specimen in full light. The rugged grey bark resembles oak and the foliage is like ash. More about Walnut trees The combination of healthy unsaturated fats, high levels of antioxidants, and rich vitamin content has increased interest in growing nuts in the garden or home orchard. Somewhat surprisingly the humble Walnut is turning out to be perhaps the healthiest of all nuts, thanks to its super-abundance of antioxidants. Pruning - Regular pruning is not really necessary but if wished any overhanging or annoying branches can be pruned out in mid summer/early
